The challenge comes in every boy’s life to break into the world of manhood. Many times, this happens through traditions that are deeply ingrained in his culture. Today I write about my story and one of those traditions that led me into the world of men. Looking back, I now see it as a key moment and the start of my journey into the world of manhood. It also brings to light the importance of building these experiences into the lives of our sons.
The Rugged Man’s Perspective of the Other Side of Jesus – What words come to mind when you think of Jesus? I would argue the standard terms used to describe Jesus are “safe.” They fit a nice guy image that many masculine men have a hard time relating to. This incomplete picture reduces the appeal and forms an image that is not the type of man most men would follow as their leader. How does a rugged man’s man fit in Christianity?
In a lot of ways, Jack Lambert’s mentality in football resonated with me. He demonstrated a grit which led to his success on the football field. A lot of what he did on the field playing football could be brought into life. Success in any endeavor requires that same grit. Though most of us will not play professional football, we are striving to be successful in life. We have ambitions and goals. Some of the same lessons from Lambert’s career can apply to our approach and success in life.
